Torque Release Technique, TRT

“Torque Release Technique is based upon what (the founders of chiropractic) Drs. D.D. and B.J. Palmer intended – that we have innate and genetic potential and that the subluxation interferes with this expression. TRT is a tonal technique based on constant never ending improvement.”

MATTHEW MCCOY, D.C.

Director of Research Life University, Chief Editor of Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research;
VP of Council of Chiropractic Practice

At Legacy Chiropractic, Dr. Crowell uses the most specific, scientific, chiropractic technique, the Torque Release Technique. This technique provides patients of any age with the most gentle and reproducible chiropractic adjustments available. It is a mixture of the best-of-the-best systems of chiropractic assessment and care.

A TRT adjustment can be delivered with the spine in a perfectly relaxed and neutral position with the perfect amount of force.

TRT involves using The Integrator, a torque and recoil-release adjusting instrument which automatically discharges when a predetermined contact pressure is reached. With chiropractic having entered its second century, this up-to-date, functional, scientific and neurologically based model is the best that is available today.

Chiropractic has never had a scientific model that represents subluxation-centered chiropractic. A model that explained the subluxation for the true role it plays. With chiropractic having entered its second century, it is essential that a truly up-to-date, functional, scientific, neurological based model lead the forefront and transform healthcare.

There have been endless definitions of the subluxation. Many pioneers have attempted to develop techniques to diagnose, locate and correct subluxations. Although much greatness has come, chiropractic has been left with mechanistic and/or linear protocols that have stood in the way of chiropractic’s true potential.

In 1994, the Holder Research Institute discovered that only vertebrates have opiate receptor site brain reward, establishing the vertebral subluxation complex as the hallmark of insult of the vertebrate’s ability to express a state of well-being to its fullest potential. 1

“The Brain Reward Cascade” is a scientific model that provides an understanding of the neurophysiological mechanisms of how the meso-limbic system expresses a state of well-being. 2 A lack of state of well-being is referred to as Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS). The vertebral motor unit and the dorsal horn are the common denominators. 3 Due to its intimate relationship to the “The Brain Reward Cascade,” a subluxation-free spine becomes mandatory for the expression of one’s greatest potential. If subluxated, reward Deficiency Syndrome is manifested. 4

RDS and the Brain Reward Cascade Model demands non-linear time sequence adjusting priorities. The neurophysiology of the Brain Reward Cascade, as well as any other nervous system components, teach us that non-linear time sequence adjusting priorities are mandatory to any chiropractic technique protocol.

Torque Release Technique was developed out of respect for non-mechanistic, non-linear timed sequence adjusting priorities and embraces The Brain Reward Cascade model. 5

Utilizing The Integrator, a torque and recoil release adjusting instrument combines the best of existing chiropractic techniques and principles, quantum physics and the body/mind connection. Creating the first integrated chiropractic system for the second century of chiropractic.

Torque Release Technique is a model that utilizes the multi-factorial approaches pioneered in the following techniques:

  • Thompson Terminal Point
  • Van Rumpt, D.N.F.T.
  • DeJarnette, S.O.T.
  • Logan Basic
  • Toftness
  • Palmer Upper Cervical
  • Network Chiropractic Spinal Analysis

TRT is non-mechanistic and non-linear. TRT utilizes neurologically-based analysis that incorporates non-linear time sequence adjusting priorities.

Gonstead Technique

Gonstead procedures are the result of extensive clinical research by Clarence S.Gonstead, founder of the world famous Gonstead Clinic of Chiropractic in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin and his associates. Doctor Gonstead’s fifty-five years of continuous practice and over four million chiropractic adjustments resulted in the most complete method of biomechanical analysis available for use by today’s doctors of chiropractic. So why don’t all chiropractors use this technique? Because the analysis takes more time and mastering the art of delivering a specific adjustment takes a LOT of practice and dedication.

The Gonstead Chiropractor goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment by conducting a thorough analysis of your spine using five criteria to detect the presence of the vertebral subluxation complex.

VISUALIZATION — Visualization is a way to cross-reference all the other findings. Your chiropractor is an expert in looking for subtle changes in your posture and movement, which could indicate problems.

INSTRUMENTATION — The instrument of choice in the Gonstead System is the Nervoscope. The Nervoscope detects uneven distributions of heat along the spine, which can be indicative of inflammation and nerve pressure. This instrument is guided down the length of your back and feels like two fingers gliding down each side of your spine.

STATIC PALPATION — This is simply the process of feeling (or palpating) your spine in a stationary (or static) position. Your chiropractor will feel for the presence of swelling (or edema), tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your back.

MOTION PALPATION — This process involves feeling the spine while moving and bending it at various angles. This enables the chiropractor to determine how easily or difficult each segment in your spine moves in different directions.

X-RAY ANALYSIS — X-ray films enable your doctor to visualize the entire structure of your spine. This is helpful in evaluating posture, joint and disc integrity, vertebral misalignments and ruling out any pathologies, or recent fractures that may be present or contributing to the patient’s condition. These full-spine radiographs are taken in the standing, weight-bearing position to fully substantiate the examination findings.
